Throughout the nation, the producers and distributors of malt beverages are deeply involved in the communities in which they do business. Their long-standing commitment to reducing, and eventually eliminating, illegal activities such as underage drinking, drunk driving, and other types of alcohol misuse is unparalleled. In fact, the industry alone has spent more than $400 million over the past decade to fund research, public safety, education and prevention campaigns to curb alcohol abuse.

Here are just a few examples: The nation's largest brewers, Anheuser-Busch, Miller and Coors are involved in a range of consumer awareness activities to help fight drunk driving and underage drinking, and to promote responsible consumption of beer by adults who choose to drink.

The brewers are leaders in providing information to the public urging safe and responsible alcohol consumption. Through support of effective awareness and prevention programs, they have helped to greatly reduce the misuse of alcohol products. No one is more concerned about problems caused by alcohol abuse, or is doing more to educate the public about responsible consumption, than members of the beer industry.

Programs for Responsible Drinking:
Beer Institute supports local and nationwide efforts to encourage responsible drinking and prevent underage drinking and drunk driving.

Programs for Servers of Alcohol:
Working with retailers, brewers and wholesalers sponsor and promote special holiday, server training, designated driver and taxi programs to promote awareness and responsible drinking at bars, restaurants, home parties and social events.

Programs for the College Campus:
The brewers also participate in and support educational programs designed to help teach young people about responsible and legal alcohol consumption on America's college campuses, with increased emphasis on binge drinking and alcohol overdose.

Safe Holiday Reminder Series:
Beer Institute produces and distributes award-winning radio public service announcements (PSAs) discouraging drunk driving for national broadcast during major driving holidays annually. The series has won two Mercury Awards for excellence.

Programs for the Home and School:
Brewers actively support and work in coordination with educators, physicians, law enforcement and other organizations in developing programs designed to reduce alcohol abuse.

Joint Projects and Community Outreach:
In addition to creating and implementing programs to fight alcohol abuse, the brewing industry has a proud history of working with others. These projects reflect a longstanding commitment to promoting responsible decisions about drinking.
