GRUPO MODELO JOINS BEER INSTITUTE

Washington, DC, June 21, 2000 -- Jeff Becker, president, Beer Institute today announced that Grupo Modelo, S.A. de C.V., the leader in production and marketing of beer in Mexico, is the newest member to Beer Institute.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome Grupo Modelo to Beer Institute. Grupo Modelo will contribute many good ideas as well as resources to aid the industry in our efforts to make us responsible corporate citizens," said Becker.

"For Grupo Modelo it is an honor to be a member of Beer Institute. It is important for Modelo to form part of an organization that looks out for and defends the interests of our industry. Modelo will uphold the statutes of Beer Institute and contribute to its goals," said Carlos Fern!ndez, CEO of Grupo Modelo.

Grupo Modelo is the 8th largest brewer in the world, the largest brewer in Mexico, and last year, it shipped 6.4 million barrels to U.S. markets. The company was founded in 1925, and currently has eight brewing plants, with a total annual installed capacity of 33.7 million barrels. Currently, Grupo Modelo brews and distributes Corona Extra, the number one Mexican beer sold in the world, Modelo Especial, Victoria Pacifico, Negra Modelo, and other regional brands. It exports five brands with presence in more than 150 countries
